Flare Vibration Analysis

Using the Marine Technolgy Directorate's excellent report, CSTI has recently evaluated the potential for failure of a flare piping system on an offshore platform. Both flow-induced turbulence and high-frequency acoustic exicitation were investigated. Recommendations were given for resolving the potential problems.

FRA Proposes Rule

Hearing Protection Rating System

The EPA is considering a revision of its hearing protector labeling requirement. The NRR (the Noise Reduction Rating) has proven unreliable for evaluating the effectiveness of hearing protectors in preventing hearing loss. On 27-28 March 2003, EPA held a workshop for the public to submit comments about the problem.
